The CBC Health Services has launched a three-day Financial Management workshop as part of a mentorship project to improve the knowledge and practices of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) staff in Accounting and Financial Management with funding from the US Embassy in Cameroon. The workshop which started on July 8, 2021, at the CBC Health Services’ Resource Center of Excellenc Mvan, Yaoundé, brought together over 20 heads of 10 CSO drawn from the Southwest, Littoral and Centre regions of Cameroon. The training was presided at by the Director of CBC Health Services, Prof Tih Pius Muffih, in the presence of the Cultural Affairs Specialist at the US Embassy, Mr. Tientcheu Mathias, CBC Health Services Grants Department Administrator, Mr Abanda Alphonse and CBC Health Services senior Accountant, Mr. Tohntoh Joseph, who is the main facilitator at the workshop. While opening the workshop, the Director of CBC Health Services, Prof Tih Pius Muffih, stated that “the training will go a long way to help CSOs in accountable management of limited financial resources in making sure that people living in poverty and those with disabilities that are being taken care of by these CSOs can be self-sustaining to take care of themselves in the community” In the same light, the workshop Coordinator, Mr Abanda Alphonse emphasized that “After these three-day training, we will be providing a continuous support to make sure that all the gaps that we would have identified in their various organizations be addressed adequately within the period of the project “ According to the Cultural Affairs Specialist of the US embassy, Mr. Tientcheu Mathias, “In 2020, a report published by the UNAIDS in Cameroon, identified financial management as one of the weaknesses in leading sustainability of CSOs in Cameroon. The report stated that most of these CSOs lack expertise, staffing and resources to establish a rigorous financial management. The report went further to show that few of these CSOs are able to be sustainable. “This is why the US embassy designed this project to increase the capacity of CSOs in Cameroon” he added It’s worth noting that, the workshop officially marks the start of a three-month long financial Management Mentorship for CSO from the Southwest, Littoral and Centre regions Of Cameroon.
