“The Home is Your First Baptist Church, Commitment there Guarantees Commitment to Your Second Baptist Church” This was the encouragement given to Couples during a Couple’s Seminar organized by the Men of Praise Baptist Church Ndongo in partnership with Marriage Alive, an organization focused on building and restoring bliss in Marriages. With over 80participants from different denominations present, the Marriage Seminar took place on Monday March 29th 2021 at Praise Baptist Church Ndongo. Participants ranged from Couples, to Single Parents, to engaged, to those Singles and Searching. Couples who have been in marriage from 5months-40years were also present.

The first Lesson was presented by the Founder of Marriage Alive Mr. Nyungsi Eugene under the Topic: “The Fruit of the Spirit and Your Marriage.” He acknowledged that most of the times, couples desire to relate better with their Spouses and their children but most times this desire is unattained. He emphasized that Marriage is an Institution that teaches Christians how to understand the relationship of the Trinity and between Christ and the Church. In His presentation, the Speaker drew inspiration from 1st Corinthians 13:4-8, focusing on the biblical definition of Love as opposed to the world’s definition. He said Love is an embodiment of the Fruit of the Spirit. Love being patient in marriage he said means tolerating, being calm while teaching or correcting and accommodating your Spouse. The use of generous words and making your Spouse a close friend builds marriage more. When love is intentionally built in a marital relationship, striving and pain will be greatly minimized, revealed the Speaker. Another Lesson on the “Fundamentals of Marriage” was presented by Mr./Mrs Talla Linus, Partners of Marriage Alive. In the interactive moment, the Couple alongside participants established that if  each Wife needs to be a good ‘Wife Material,’ the Husband must be a good ‘Tailor Husband,’ to compliment the Wife. Mrs. Talla revealed some qualities of a good wife material drawing inspiration from Scripture’s view on a model wife from Proverbs 31:10-31.Some of the qualities includes; she must be the Husband’s greatest Support, she should enrich his life, she should bring him good and not harm, she needs to be industrious and an entrepreneur, be proactive and foresighted and much more. Mr. Talla talked to the Husbands emphasizing that just like a bad tailor can mishandle a good material, likewise a bad husband will mishandle a good wife. He sampled some types of husbands based on his experience which included the ‘Survival husband’ who is one who struggles to be the Man of the home, the ‘Frustrated husband’ who is one who has lost authority in his home and is dominated by his wife, the ‘Foolish husband’who has no concern for his home and has abandoned his responsibilities to the wife, and much more. At the end of each lesson, Couples asked questions, shared their experiences/challenges and received responses.

A special moment tagged, “Moment of Bliss” was experienced by each couple wherein husbands listened to their wives reveal the things they do which makes them feel both loved and unloved and likewise the wives listened to their husbands reveal those things which makes them feel both respected and disrespected. This was accompanied by prayers, as each Couple intentionally prayed for the Lord to renew their marriage. Another special time followed, wherein each husband facing his wife, addressed her using some pet names, acknowledged how special she is to him and handed a flower to her as a sign of renewal of their love. Singles were also given flowers by some couples encouraging them not to see Singlehood as a crime but as an opportunity to better prepare for marriage. The Seminar ended with a vote of thanks from the Senior Pastor of the church Rev. Tata Stephen, for the excellent work done by the facilitators and calling on the Couples to water the Seed which has been sowed. Snapshots and a fellowship meal in joy and happiness, marked the close of the program.
